Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about buying a Japanese import from us. If yours isn't here, ask — we reply the same working day.

Buying

Yes. Every retail car is registered with the DVLA, carries a UK number plate and has a current MOT before it goes on sale. You drive away on the day, the same as buying from any UK dealer.

Japanese cars record distance in kilometres. We show the odometer reading in km and the converted figure in miles so you can compare like for like. The speedometer is converted or overlaid to read mph before registration.

An independent inspector at the Japanese auction grades every car from 1 to 6 (plus S for nearly new and R/RA for previously repaired) and rates the interior and exterior from A to E. A 4 or 4.5 is an excellent used car; a 3.5 is honest with cosmetic marks. We publish the original sheet on every listing.

Ask us about warranty options on the car you're interested in. Independent warranty products are available on most retail stock and we'll give you a written quote alongside the price.

Yes, viewings are by appointment in Wolverhampton so we can have the car and paperwork ready. We're a short taxi ride from Wolverhampton railway station and can collect you if you let us know in advance.

Imports and paperwork

Most mainstream models (Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Suzuki, and the German brands sold in Japan) are the same as, or very close to, their UK equivalents, and many insurers quote normally. We can supply the model code and chassis number for your insurer. Servicing is standard; parts for Japan-only models are readily available from specialist suppliers.

Yes. Import duty and VAT are paid and the vehicle is declared to HMRC (NOVA) before we apply for UK registration. You receive the V5C in your name after purchase.

Petrol cars registered from about 2006 (Euro 4) and diesels from about 2015 (Euro 6) generally meet ULEZ and Clean Air Zone standards. Because imports are not on the automatic databases, you may need to send the V5C or a manufacturer's certificate of conformity to TfL or the relevant council. We'll tell you the position for any specific car.

Finance and part-exchange

Yes. Send us the registration number, mileage and a few photos for an indicative valuation, or bring the car with you to a viewing.

We can introduce you to independent finance brokers we work with. Jasmine Auto Ltd is a credit broker, not a lender. Finance is subject to status and available to UK residents aged 18 and over.

Delivery and collection

Yes, to any mainland UK address by transporter, usually within a week of payment clearing. Collection from Wolverhampton is free.

Salvage and trade

Yes. We import Category S and N cars and repairable Japanese-market vehicles for trade buyers, and offer multi-unit pricing. Every salvage car is listed with its damage description, category and auction grade.
